OUR FATHER

The Lord Almighty says, “I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters.” [2 Corinthians 6:18 (GW)]

Our children don’t have to earn our love; we love them because they are ours. And so it is with God’s children; he loves us simply because we are His. Yet, unlike earthly parents, God manages to remain calm and firm, loving and patient, no matter how exasperating or rebellious His children may be. Moreover, his advice is always correct, his provision is always enough, and he never tires of comforting us. If only our parenting skills were as good!

A MUSTARD SEED

2013-6-23I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. [Matthew 17:20-21 (NLT)]

Lord, give me the confidence to believe that, indeed, all things are possible.

THE PATH WE TAKE

2013-6--10You will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way. Follow it, whether it turns to the right or to the left.” [Isaiah 30:21 (GW)]

God sets a path before us, yet sometimes we’re discouraged before we even get started. All we see is the rough road, the steep climb, or the boulders blocking the trail. We need to trust the Lord and accept the route he gives us: just walk the road, climb uphill when necessary and work our way around the obstacles.

Dear Lord, let me hear your voice guiding me on my life journey. Give me the faith to take the route you’ve set, the endurance to make my way over the rugged parts, the strength to climb the difficult slopes, and the intelligence to find my way around any obstacles in my path. Please God, may I also have the vision to see the wildflowers and hidden blessings you’ve strewn along the way.

DO THE WORK

Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or terrified. The Lord God, my God, will be with you. He will not abandon you before all the work on the Lord’s temple is finished. [1 Chronicles 28:20 (GW)]

Thank you, Father, for reminding us that, although you make the plans, we have to do the work. Give us perseverance and endurance to keep working even when we see little or no progress. Thank you for your love, guidance, and patience. We know you have great plans for us; help us to achieve them.

Pray as if everything depended on God and work as if everything depended on you. [Attributed to St. Ignatius Loyola]

BELIEVE HIS PROMISES

The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them. Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord. [Psalm 106:24-25 (NLT)]

When the Israelites scouted out Canaan, they saw a rich and fertile country. Rather than believing God’s promise that the land would be theirs, however, they focused on their fears of the land’s inhabitants. Not only did they forget all of God’s previous miracles that led them out of slavery and through the wilderness, but the Israelites also doubted His promise to safely deliver them into Canaan. In fear, they refused to enter it. Because they were unwilling to take a simple step of faith, these people never lived to set foot in the Promised Land and it was forty more years of wandering in the wilderness before their offspring eventually did.

O Lord, what gifts of yours are we missing simply because we don’t trust you? What steps of faith do we need to take in order to enjoy your many blessings? Don’t let us forget your past miracles when faced with present challenges.

PEACE OF MIND

I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. [John 14:27 (NT)]

Thank you Lord for your assurance that there is no need to fear what today has to offer or what tomorrow will bring.
