How to Pray

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. [Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT)]

With the right kind of prayer, we can have the right kind of life!

Do not pray for easy lives; pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be a miracle. Every day you shall wonder at yourself, at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God. [Phillips Brooks]

Divine Intervention

Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. [Isaiah 46:10 (NLT)]

Is it coincidence or God’s providence? Today, let’s look for God’s hand in the events of this day, the people we meet, and the places we go. He has something wonderful planned for us.

We Can’t Earn What is Freely Given

I have loved you the same way the Father has loved me. So live in my love. [John 15:9 (GW)]

Lord Jesus, I don’t deserve your love and there is nothing I can do to earn it. Forgive me when I exhaust myself in an effort to prove my worth and importance. Let me rest in your love, secure in the knowledge that, although I can never merit your love, you love me simply because I am yours. Thank you.

HE IS FAITHFUL IN HIS WORDS

God always does what he says, and is gracious in everything he does. God gives a hand to those down on their luck, gives a fresh start to those ready to quit. [Psalm 145:13b-14 (MSG)]

Lord, sometimes, when we’re in the midst of turmoil, pain or sorrow, we find it difficult to feel your love or see your kindness. When we falter in our faith, forgive us; don’t let us quit believing in you. Please reassure us of your presence and help us see your hand in all that happens. Help us believe your promises.

THIS LIFE’S JUST A PRELUDE

I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. [John 11:25-26 (NLT)]

In the overture to an opera, we hear bits of the musical themes but don’t get to experience the richness of the entire score, or the amazing voices, libretto, scenery, costumes, and dancing. Our life here is much like a musical introduction; it’s just a short prelude to eternity. Once we realize our days on earth are only the overture, it’s easier to understand why we don’t have everything we want here and now. It is only after death that we will experience the real fullness of life.

HE IS CONSTANT

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. [Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)]

The people in our lives will come and go and sometimes, unfortunately, they may even disappoint or hurt us. Thank you, God, for being the one constant in our lives: ever present, always available, and ceaseless in your love.

And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. [Matthew 28:20b (NLT)]
