DO WE EVER WE BETRAY HIM (MAUNDY THURSDAY 2013)

Now Jesus was deeply troubled, and he exclaimed, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me!” [John 13:21 (NLT)]

Not me, Lord, I wouldn’t and couldn’t betray you! Or would and could I? Have I ever betrayed my Lord as Judas did that night or denied following Jesus as Peter did that same evening? Have I become inattentive to His words as the disciples did in the garden? Have I ever abandoned Him as they did while He suffered on the cross? Have I ever doubted, yielded to temptation, or forsaken my Lord? Unfortunately, the answer is yes.

Fortunately, just as Peter and the disciples were forgiven for their lack of faith, so are we. Moreover, just as Peter and the disciples went on to accomplish great things, so can we!

PALM SUNDAY – 2013

A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him [Jesus]. They shouted “Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of The Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!” [John 12:12b-13 (NLT)]

Do you ever wonder where all these joyful people were only a few days later when the crowd chose Barabbas over Jesus to be saved from dying on the cross? Why were they silent? What happened to the people who had shouted “Hail to the King of Israel!” when Jesus hauled his cross down the road? Why were there no cries of outrage then? Where were these people when Jesus was crucified? Do you ever wonder where you would be and what you would have done if you’d been in Jerusalem that Passover week?

Lord Jesus, even when we feel you’ve disappointed us, don’t ever let us abandon you. Reassure us of your presence. Forgive us for our silence when we should have spoken and acknowledged you publicly as our Lord and Savior! May we always greet you with praise and thanksgiving.

HE PROMISES

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. [Psalm 34:17-18 (NLT)]

Isn’t it comforting to know that we are never alone in our struggles and woes? God is always with us. We just have to call to Him. We may still have troubles, but He will never let them defeat us. Praise God!

If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath. [Psalm 34:18 (MSG)]

ENCOURAGEMENT AND GOOD HOPE

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who also loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. [2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)]

As this week’s challenges present themselves, I pray that you will remember you have your very own personal cheer-leading squad in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are always there with you, urging you on to victory!

HE IS HERE!

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. [Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)]

Even when we doubt Him, even when we fail to see Him, even when we won’t trust Him, God is here for us. This is His promise!

I WILL PUT MY HOPE IN GOD

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my savior and my God. [Psalm 43:5 (NLT)]

We must never let past hurts be the defining moments of our lives. Our identity lies in God. He loves and accepts us, guides and protects us, forgives us and gives us hope!
