SOMEONE’S AT THE DOOR

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. [Revelation 3:20 (NIV)]

Come, Lord Jesus, and be our guest … [Lutheran table prayer]

May the Lord always be welcome in our homes and the unseen guest at our tables!

PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. [Psalm 19:14 (NLT)]

Thank you, God, for this day. Direct my thoughts, monitor my speech, and prompt my actions. Inspire my petitions and hear my prayers.

WAIT QUIETLY

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. [Psalm 62:5-6 (NLT)]

Oh God, far too many of my prayers consist of me talking to you and far too few of my prayers involve me listening to you! Thank you for reminding me that only in my silence will I hear your voice.

TELL GOD WHAT YOU NEED

Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. [Philippians 4:6 (NLT)]

O Lord, it is so easy to tell you what I want, which often is not what I need. And it is so difficult to thank you for your response when you give me what I need instead of what I want. When you send me challenges, I rarely appreciate them and certainly don’t thank you for them when they arrive. Yet, those challenges are exactly what are necessary for my growth.

Teach me, Lord. Show me how to ask for what I need and give me a thankful heart for what I get.

HE PROMISES

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. [Psalm 34:17-18 (NLT)]

Isn’t it comforting to know that we are never alone in our struggles and woes? God is always with us. We just have to call to Him. We may still have troubles, but He will never let them defeat us. Praise God!

If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath. [Psalm 34:18 (MSG)]
