The Giver of All Gifts

2013-11-26

He made heaven and earth. He made the sea and everything in it. [Psalm 146:6a (ERV)]

God created everything and what a mind-boggling and beautiful gift His creation is! We see His work in the miracle of birth, the majesty of the mountains, the diversity of plant and animal life, the power of a thunderstorm, and the magnificence of a rainbow. We see it in caterpillars that become butterflies, acorns that become mighty oaks and tadpoles that turn into frogs. We shouldn’t, however, confuse the creation with the creator. Although we may find God in His creation, He is far greater than that. We must never worship the creation or the gift, only the Creator and Giver of Gifts!

So today you must remember and accept that the Lord is God. He is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other god! [Deuteronomy 4:39 (ERV)]

Our Tears

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. [Psalm 56:8 (NLT)]

God is compassionate. He is intimately connected to all of our emotions; he knows when we cry. He is there when we shed tears at the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship. He is there when a child enters rehab, when we hear the word “malignant,” and when our home is flooded. It is not, however, just tears of sorrow He collects. God is with us when we shed tears of joy at a wedding, when we’re promoted, and the first time a grandmother holds her grandchild. He is there, collecting tears, when a mother watches her child goes off to kindergarten and when that same child graduates from college. He is there when the doctor says “benign,” when we gather together for a family reunion, and when we recall the comical moments of family history. He has recorded not just our tears of pain and sorrow, but also our tears of relief, joy and laughter.

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! [Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)]

We Have All We Need

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. [2 Peter 1:2 (NLT)]

We’ve all met spoiled children (and adults) who expect the world to cater to their every desire. Let’s admit it, those people aren’t very likeable! God doesn’t want spoiled children so He doesn’t give us everything we want either. He does, however, give us everything we need to live the life He wants for us. Are we missing any of the blessings He has sent our way? Are there assets He’s given that we haven’t even bothered to use? Could we be wasting any gifts he has given?

Open my eyes, O Lord, to see your gifts. Open my heart, O Lord, to accept them. Fill me with your Spirit, O Lord, to use them as you want them to be used.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. [2 Peter 1:3 (NLT)]

Invite Him into Your Life

Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.” [John 4:39-42 (NLT)]

After Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well, she immediately shared her experience with others. Curious about this man who claimed to be the Messiah, the villagers invited him into their homes so they could spend time with him. They didn’t believe simply because of what another person said; neither should we. We have no need to base our faith simply on someone else’s experience or interpretation of His message; we can base it on our first-hand experience with Him. When we invite Jesus into our hearts and lives, we, too, will know who He is.

Then Jesus told her, “I Am the Messiah! [John 4:26 (NLT)]

Success

May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. [Psalm 20:4 (NLT)]

If our plans are those of God, we will, indeed, succeed!

May you be blessed with success in all your endeavors today. And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful! [Psalm 90:17 (NLT)]

Judge your success by the degree that you’re enjoying peace, health, and love. [From “Life’s Instructions for Wisdom, Success, and Happiness”, by H. Jackson Brown Jr.]

Faith Alone Saves Us

Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace!” [Luke 7:70 (GW)]

Lord, thank you for your saving grace. It would be easier, however, if we could buy or work our way into heaven. Deeds or writing checks are over and done with but maintaining a relationship with you means work. Faith is a tough requirement, because it requires complete trust in you. We have to give you the reins to our lives. Relieve our fears so that we fully accept this beautiful gift you so readily offer.

Be a man of faith, and faith will sustain you.
Sustain a life of love, and love will embrace you.
Embrace God’s grace, and His grace will follow you.
Follow in His footsteps, and His footsteps will lead to life everlasting.
