Our Words

But now you must get rid of all these things: anger, passion, and hateful feelings. No insults or obscene talk must ever come from your lips. [Colossians 3:8 (GNT)]

Lord, guide us so that our words build, not break; honor, not demean; and bless, not curse. Let our words be those of compassion, not judgment; love, not scorn; and praise, not disparagement.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. [Mother Teresa]

Two Are Better Than One

2013-8-9Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. [Ecclesiastes [4:9-12 (NLT)]

Thank you, Lord, for telling me that I don’t have to accomplish every task or deal with every difficulty by myself. Not only are you at my side, but you also have given me family and friends who are here to advise, assist and sustain me. Help me recognize when I need their support and make me willing to seek it. I know I am not perfect; take away my fear of admitting it.

God Can Turn Our Problems into Victories

Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress. My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all! [Psalm 25:16-17 (NLT)]

O Lord, I usually pray that you will make my problems disappear rather than ask you to show me how to work through them. I want you to change my circumstances when you have given me the circumstances so I will change my character. Help me to learn your lessons so that I can become the person you want me to be.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. [Romans 12:2 (NLT)]

Try to Remember

They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. [Psalm 112:7 (NLT)]

When we’re worried about the future, it helps to pause and remember all the good things God has done for us in the past. Thank you, God, for all you gave us yesterday; may we have faith enough to entrust you with tomorrow.

We Can’t Earn What is Freely Given

I have loved you the same way the Father has loved me. So live in my love. [John 15:9 (GW)]

Lord Jesus, I don’t deserve your love and there is nothing I can do to earn it. Forgive me when I exhaust myself in an effort to prove my worth and importance. Let me rest in your love, secure in the knowledge that, although I can never merit your love, you love me simply because I am yours. Thank you.
