A REASON TO GIVE THANKS

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. [1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT)]

Have you ever noticed how thanksgiving and joy seem to go hand in hand? It’s difficult to express gratitude for God’s blessings and still have a heart heavy with sorrow or disappointment. Perhaps it’s not so much that God wants thanks from us, rather it is the joy that comes from a thankful heart that He wants for us.

LET GOD PICK OUT YOUR OUTFIT TODAY

So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic all-purpose garment. Never be without it. [Colossians 3:12-14 (MSG)]

O Lord, help me be less concerned with what I put on my body and more concerned with what I wear in my heart.

SILENCE CAN BE GOLDEN

Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. [Proverbs 10:19 (NLT)]

If you can’t say anything nice, say nothing at all! [Mom’s wise advice]

A prayer I often use is this one: Lord, put your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth! It’s a good one to remember!

GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” [2 Corinthians 9:7 (NLT)]

When we give, I think God is more concerned with our attitude than what we offer or even the quantity of our offering. Lord, stop us from grumbling or complaining when we are asked to share your gifts. Give us cheerful hearts and willing spirits.

LIFE’S TOO SHORT TO WASTE A SINGLE MOMENT

Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us spend them as we should. [Psalm 90:12 (TLB)]

Father Almighty, thank you for every hour with which we have been blessed. Show us how to use them wisely. Don’t let us waste a single moment today with negative thoughts or actions. Teach us how to use this day to honor you and your gifts and live a life of joy and thanksgiving.
