It isn’t Rocket Science!

If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved. By believing you receive God’s approval and by declaring your faith you are saved. [Romans 10:9-10 (GW)]

Lord, thank you for making salvation so simple: believe in our hearts and speak with our mouths that Christ Jesus is the risen Lord!

An Amazing Offer

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16 (NIV)]

The words of John 3:16, if believed, can bring us great comfort and peace. If we don’t believe them, however, we might be confused by this extravagant and unbelievable exchange: God traded his only child for a bunch of thankless sinners! That kind of sacrifice seems totally inconceivable. This exchange may appear irrational to some, but let’s consider how much crazier it would be to turn down His extraordinary offer of eternal life.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His love endures forever. [Psalm 136:1 (NIV)]

God Can Turn Our Problems into Victories

Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress. My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all! [Psalm 25:16-17 (NLT)]

O Lord, I usually pray that you will make my problems disappear rather than ask you to show me how to work through them. I want you to change my circumstances when you have given me the circumstances so I will change my character. Help me to learn your lessons so that I can become the person you want me to be.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. [Romans 12:2 (NLT)]

THIS LIFE’S JUST A PRELUDE

I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. [John 11:25-26 (NLT)]

In the overture to an opera, we hear bits of the musical themes but don’t get to experience the richness of the entire score, or the amazing voices, libretto, scenery, costumes, and dancing. Our life here is much like a musical introduction; it’s just a short prelude to eternity. Once we realize our days on earth are only the overture, it’s easier to understand why we don’t have everything we want here and now. It is only after death that we will experience the real fullness of life.
