YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU

Now, our God, we thank you, and we praise your glorious name! All these things didn’t come from me and my people. All these things come from you. We are only giving back to you things that came from you. We are only strangers traveling through this world like our ancestors. Our time on earth is like a passing shadow, and we cannot stop it. [1 Chronicles 29:13-15 (ERV)]

These were David’s words when all of the millions of dollars’ worth of gifts were assembled for the building of the Temple. He began by thanking the Lord for the privilege of giving! Let his words remind us that we are simply renters here on earth and everything we have is on loan from God. It’s His, not ours, and we certainly can’t take it with us when we die, which is why, as was recently pointed out to me at church, we’ve never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul.

WE ALWAYS HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. [2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)]

Lord, I often protest that I don’t have the time, money or ability to do something you ask of me. Yet, I always seem to have time, money and skills enough to do what I want for me. Why should I hesitate or complain when you ask me to offer financial aid, a helping hand, a listening ear, or even just a smile to one of your people? You’ve not only given me everything I need now but you’ve also promised to provide whatever I need in the future. Thank you.

GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” [2 Corinthians 9:7 (NLT)]

When we give, I think God is more concerned with our attitude than what we offer or even the quantity of our offering. Lord, stop us from grumbling or complaining when we are asked to share your gifts. Give us cheerful hearts and willing spirits.
